I personally don't invest in markets that rely on cyclical mining booms. I have friends who in the past who have invested in Perth bought, subdivided, built and sold using their SMSF as the investment vehicle. Fortunately for them they timed the cycle, had luck run their way and sold prior to downturn. The difference between investors and gamblers is to buy as close to bottom of market as possible or catch the ride as it starts to rise (do the research in the area you are looking at)determine amenities, location public transport etc....extract potential ie sub division, extension,etc..... Use an investment vehicle that is ideal to your plan ( is it a long term investment or short term investment) All of these strategies reduce risk on investment
