CARDANAL INDEX SET FOR WORLD STAGE
Research confirming the potential of IM Medical’s unique cardiovascular diagnostic technology
has been accepted for presentation and publication by one of the world’s premier heart
specialist organisations.
The research on the Cardanal Predictive IndexTM (CPI) will be published in the journal of the
American College of Cardiology (ACC) next year. IM Medical will also present the research at
the 57th annual International conference of the ACC in Chicago in March, 2008. The
conference will be attended by nearly 30,000 cardiologists and other health experts from
around the world who meet to share best practices and learn about exciting developments in
cardiovascular science and innovation.
The Chief Executive Officer of IM Medical, Mr Tommas Bonvino, said the acknowledgement of
the research by such a high profile international institution was the most exciting development
for Cardanal since IM Medical acquired the technology early this year.
Dr David Eccleston, a Melbourne cardiologist commented: “When it comes to developments in
medicine, peer-reviewed publication in the medical literature is critical for acceptance by
doctors. The research is being presented in probably one of the two premier forums in the
world for cardiology�.
IM Medical’s Chief Scientific Officer, Dr Aaron Ginzburg, one of the founders of the Cardanal
technology developed over 18 years in Melbourne, said the CPI proprietary software was
fundamentally a new way of interpreting of ECG data to provide faster and more reliable
diagnosis. Dr Ginzburg said: “The software could be added to any doctor’s ECG equipment
and personal computer. The program feeds data from conventional 12-lead ECG machine into
the doctor’s PC and in a matter of minutes displays a simple graphic with diagnostic material�.
The CPI is the second and most important stage of the Cardanal technology. Earlier this year,
the first stage was integrated into IM Medical’s Intelliheart tests performed in clinics and in the
workplace. The first stage allowed remote diagnosis through the transmission of ECGs over
the internet and storage and retrieval of ECG waves for easy filing and comparison with
previous tests.
Mr Bonvino said: “The marketing and rollout of the CPI aspect of Cardanal was awaiting peerreviewed
endorsement of its potential. This has now happened and sets the foundations for
the next stage of the company’s growth�.
