OM do work for institutional investors. Any number of brokers, superannuation companies etc could have commissioned the report if they were doing DD on a company they were going to have to start looking at as a serious portfolio option pending the ASX300 rebalancing.

I’ve been saying from the beginning the whole linking to Shap of shorts is a waste of time. Various people already had their eyes on BIG in the lead up to the AFR article, enough to commission research that OM prob worked on for a week or two. Anyone at OM could have taken on short positions based on what they found if they thought it was suss and knew that they’d share the final report with media connections.
