Diligent says: "I don't see any problem with tackling terrorists on their home ground, be that in Afghanisatn or Pakistan. Why wait until they arrive on our shores, by then it's too late. It's a breeding gound for global terrorists so that's where you will find them."
Until John Howard became Bush's "Deputy World Sheriff" and sent Ausssie troops into a hotbed of religious, warlord, drug-running and political uprisings, suppressions and insurgency in-fighting in stange foreign lands that most Aussies can't find on a map, don't undertand their history or culture, and don't give a rat's backside about (any more than they know where Australia is or give a rat's backside about us) the idea that terrorists from those lands (unless we got into bed with Bush) would come sailing up Sydney Harbour (dressed in expensive nautical attire) hell-bent on blowing up the Opera House as a symbol of Western decadence is ludicrous in the extreme.
If any terrorists (from strange foreign lands) are plotting to blow up the Opera House, it will be the result of Bush, Blair and Howard bombing and invading their homelands and terrorising their families at the point of a gun.
Places like Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan where Sunni and Shia militias, mad mullahs, lunatic jihadists and tribal warlords are all trying to 'Rule the Roost' are (in social develpoment terms) where squabbling European nations were 400 years ago when Catholic and Protestant clergy were burning heretics while minor princes and barons were butchering each other's armies in a quest for religious and political power.
The idea that 'enlightened' Western nations can bomb, butcher and maim socially backward lands into a deep and abiding faith in democracy in 40 (let alone 4) years when our culture took 400 years to arrive at where we are at is insanity on steroids...
PARTICULARLY when our motivation is not to benefit them, but to use them to benefit our own safety and prosperity while they wallow in war-torn pain, misery and deprivation!
