As readers might recall from an earlier post I had written to Akio Toyoda (President of Toyota) in November 2017 to advocate the release of an electric 4x4 Toyota Hilux to service our Australian farmers, scientific field community and professional, remote area firefighting specialists - the Hilux being the vehicle of choice, given its reliability in our remote environments. In my letter I had also mentioned one or two features I would like to see incorporated (I can be a presumptuous old bugger). In any case, on Friday 23rd March I received a second response via snail mail from a Hiroyuki Konishi (Japanese Head office Customer Relations Division) advising me that President Toyoda was so impressed with my letter that he (the President) has ordered my communication to be circulated to various divisions for feedback direct to the man himself. Apparently he (the President) was taken with one of my 4x4, EV related safety design features.
So, when or if we see the release of a 4x4 Toyota Hilux in the future with an integrated solar roof panel to ameliorate the risk of a depleted battery in the remote wilderness you may rightly assume some Australian input.
Furthermore, in the unlikely event that there is any additional bilateral communications with Toyota you can be sure that I'll be mentioning Australian hardrock lithium and PLS as an added sales feature to their 4x4 EVs, given Australia has a reputation for quality.
The moral of the story is: it never hurts to write a letter.
