Was just watching a youtube video on the OBOR project and it was stated that one of the reasons for undertaking it was that chinese were trying to lower its dependency on its export geared economy and shift towards a domestic consumer driven economy. To stimulate growth, apparently china needs to do huge infrastructure projects to make up for the short fall or expected short fall in their export economy. If all this eventuates as planned, this can only mean a massive demand for resources , hence why the chinese government is trying to secure resources with so much urgency. There is definitely gonna be a scramble for copper, gold, silver and other commodities like cobalt that are essential for EVs
