quiet day so heres some ramblings

some time ago (maybe 25-28 years) i was involved with
the floodway remediation scheme on the buchanan hwy between jasper gorge to just past the vrd front gate. some geo's
had set up camp with us for a while so i asked them about
some weird palm trees that grew on the upper ledges of
jasper gorge.
he told me that they were an ancient species that only grew in that particular area but also that the upper geology of the
area was also very ancient.
his take on it was that because of the massive annual rainfall
on an area that obstensibly drifts into desert,the surface layers are eroded at a high rate, but also because of the very
porous nature of the area the leaching effect tends to congregate minerals which over time may outcrop.
that is what they where looking for.
did they find anything?
dont know, finished my job and moved on
