Why should they? Because that is what they agreed on. So if that is what they agreed on why should Ponting follow through with his end of the agreement?
The catch you are referring to looked to be completed before his hand went to ground on the replays I saw. However the umpires decision is final. I am not a Ponting fan as captain for a few reasons but none of what you have posted.
I guess that is why it is such a great game...we all see things from different perspectives.
