It's extremely far fetched. Firstly the broker sells the stock on to individual investors and secondly, even if the broker retained some stock, it's not in the brokers interests to see the price fall, for the stock they hold or their reputation in selling the stock in the first place.
If you're down to blaming shorters for your woes then you really have a problem. Shorters only make money targeting over valued stocks. If there was value in the stock, buyers would overwhelm them and you'd get a short squeeze. I doubt there is much stock shorted on this tbh.
