Now back to the topic.
I agree with some of the suggested reasons already put forward. One other that I've been thinking of is buying on the reasonably high chance of higher offers being put on the table. There is studies that show quite a high percentage of t/o offers receive counter bids.
This offer wasn't just thought up the other day. This Chris Ellison is an extreme opportunist who has been out bid on other attempted take overs. He is just a guy that doesn't want to pay fair value. I say stuff him!
Anyway, he has come in with his low opportunistic offer and found a board of weak useless individuals that are all too willing to shaft their shareholders. He probably fully expects a counter offer and then will asses if he wants to keep playing.
I'd be very surprised if no one else is looking at Atlas and if they don't like Ellison getting his hand on a growing diversified company for next to nothing, they will play.
