"Democracy will come about one day.."
that is where the dilemma lies: a democratically elected government in Pakistan, under present current anti-American sentiments in the muslim world, is unlikely to see a pro American regime there. If you look at the muslim countries in that part of the world, except for Turkey, none of the pro American regimes are democratically elected governments.
