As a resident I can confirm the sport side of things was top notch. However as a cabbie I can report the night life never fired due to the absence of the party locals.
They got the message loud n clear - stay away. Our town, their games. Thus Byron, Kingscliff, Noosa etc was jamming! Yet the party capital of Australia was largely a non event. Cabbies gave up at midnight most nights. Embarrassing.
