Alcohol sales

Afterpay has conducted more than 13 million transactions and has more than 1.8 million active customers. Of the 14,000 merchants we work with, only 15 are wine merchants or wineries. There are a number of legal obligations imposed on businesses which sell alcohol online, including not selling or delivering alcohol to a minor. Afterpay retains the right to suspend merchant services if it believes a breach of law has occurred. With regard to the Ownership Matters report, Afterpay notes the person who purchased the alcohol was allegedly a minor, made two orders and was therefore acting in breach of relevant laws and Afterpay’s terms and conditions. One order was cancelled and refunded, and the delivery of the alcohol was never made either to a minor or to anyone else. According to shipping records, the other was delivered to the office of Ownership Matters in the Melbourne CBD which is attended by adults.
