The old law firms valued WIP at 0 until the cash came in the door - that was too conservative. Unfortunately the methods chosen left to door open to trickery.

This sort of nonsense is as old as financial markets.

In my view the main purpose of recommendation services should be to avoid situations like this. If all the professionals had a CFA qualification - doesn't that prove it's useless?

I think advisors should be reasonably paid but acting more like the statisticians of old - keeping people on the straight and narrow. I don't think others should try what I do as I see consequences like SGH so often.

As someone who has recently started their CFA, I can say it helps people critically analyse the numbers in front of them... but not complete and utter acts of fraud as we see regularly in the market that make the published numbers irrelevant.

Reading management is just as important IMO.
