anything can be called a store of wealth providing it has the confidence of the poplulation. Gold can be held in store and small amounts are debited to that gold store. ie instead of having 50oz, you now have 49.9999oz. Transactions are totally digital. The same system will work for a soft/hard commodity basket. In the pre digital days we had to have a physical transfer, but no longer. I favour a commodity basket as a currency, ie T-bones appeal to my sons but they are still trying to work out where gold sits. Maybe gold is just for old folk.
