Bolivia to develop S. de Uyuni, page-17

Bolivia having the greatest resource of lithium is not a new thing. The issues from lithium extraction from Salar de Uyuni from my understanding are as follows...
    1. The salar is contaminated with large quantities of magnesium - the Mg:Li ratio is around 18:1 whereas most of the atacama and Argentina are between 2:1 and 8:1. It is an expensive chemical process to remove the magnesium.
    2. The lithium grades are not great - around 420mg/litre
    3. Uyuni has higher rainfall and a cooler climate than the atacama making evaporation rates less than half of the atacama

The other issues are a lack of infrastructure, a government that is anti mining and to gain port access would require an agreement with another country.

I wouldn’t be too worried about this resource adding much to supply in the short term and especially battery grade lithium carbonate.
