Take a look at the chart - ive labelled in a couple of points for the newbies.
Its a 30 min chart, ive labelled the last close for the DJIA, and then shown the fall in the futures.
If it opens this low then watch out. I havnt seen this kind of movement since 9/11, that was 600+ points down on the open.
