I started spec trading in 1999 by selling 2 of my 6 bluechips and was forced out of it in late 2000 holding just 4 blues.
Re-entered specs in early 2001 by selling another bluechip and built sizable spec portfolio which is 95% cash now. Never regret the losses in 2000 without which wouldn’t have gone through this mess unscratched.
