Yup.
Accounting concepts like 'gross profit' (or 'EBITDA' or 'cash cost per tonne') form a component of overall profit (or loss), and so can be useful when analysing the overall result.
But when a company mentions 'gross profit' (or another component) and then ends the conversation, you should ask what they are trying to distract your attention from.
