Basically, Pecora's commision discovered banking,company and individual corruption to such an extent it took 20+ years after the 29 crash before Wall St recovered and regained respectability.
Subprime is being banded about as an unfortunate and unforseen cause of the present situation when it is the banks lack of discipline and lack of insurance to cover the debts. They are talking "trillions" of dollars and its not going to "go away" tomorrow.(quick version)
Perhaps more wiser souls on hc can put a better bent to it
