The only people I can see opposing this action by the federal government is a handful of old Howard supporters who need to disappear along with their fallen hero.
The stolen generation was IMO a possibly well intentioned mistake which probably actually helped some but which was not in the best interests of most. Australia at that time was a very racist country where non-whites were not even officially regarded as human (they were fauna and flora)and this policy was a part of that. The last hunts (whites having sport tracking and shooting aboriginals) took place in the 1950's in outback Australia and some old people can remember the experience.
It was only in the 1960's that ATSI people were recognized as citizens and allowed to vote in elections.
I hope this apology will be an end to this business and we can move on as a nation.
