1) Wall Street doesn't want to know the full extent of the mess.
2) The PPT members sure as hell don't want a panic so they're not going to tell you more than a fraction of reality.
3) The sanctity of the US banking system must be preserved at all costs.
4) There's a common belief that if the US can buy enough time it can minimise the fallout in the markets.
