UBS analysts conceded it could conceivably look much worse in the longer term. It looked at a potential scenario of Telstra's mobile market share shrinking to 40 per cent, and calculated a "downside" valuation of $2.50.
Analysts also questioned the viability of Telstra's highly-prized dividend, saying the changing market conditions meant it would be unable to sustain the 22¢ a share it will return to investors this year.
