The thing is that I don't think that WP lied. He wouldn't have "put his reputation on the line" if he knew he was lying. He genuinely was absolutely convinced that he'd meet his targets.
Given that he has missed them when he was so sure of this, how confident can anybody (lenders, investors, associates, partners, BOD, etc) be in WP's ability to run this company now.
You tell me how many times you've seen managers verbally stake their reputation on a commitment? I'll be impressed if you can think of one example other than WP.
