This one with the nose ring reminds me a lot of our old Guernsey house cow that kept getting into the garden and had to be led out by the lead-rope.
She was always up to mischief just like this one so that would explain the use of a nose-ring to keep her from going astray.
The nose-ring also came in handy at agricultural shows in parade rings.
