Best way to keep any market honest is to have an independent participant in there.
As for the blame game between political parties, it does no-one any good (or kudos in the electorate's eyes) to continuously point fingers & constantly hark back to 1, 5, 12, 17 etc years ago.
The electorate needs to become immune to these games & demand performance in relation to the situation that they currently find themselves in.
