voltaire.....perhaps this is just one of those sensitive issues for me. from my own experience, i believe the notion of "assimilation" to be utter bullshit. and i bet my european ass that anyone who is not anglo-white feels the same way.
i agree that through education, our children are then free to make life choices and decisions. but i also believe access to education to be a basic human right...as are access to basic infrastructure and services....which most aborigines in remote communities are denied.
and these basic services that the majority of us take for advantaged have nothing to do with "assimilation" but everything to do with how we perceive ourselves. how can we expect our children to thrive and hope if everything looks hopeless.
