My understanding is the Tin, Niobium and Tantalum have a quite different specific gravity than Lithium.

Spodumene with a SG (Specific Gravity) or density of circa 3 -3.2 typically but can be extracted commercially using gravity separation settings at 2.7 SG and lower (typically called "middlings") hence why recent metallurgical testing @ 2.7 SG threashold. Tin in ore cassiterite has 6.4 - 7.0 SG, Niobium SG is 8.57 and Tantalum SG is 16.69 is quite different in comparison.

So In principal the 1st round of dense media gravity separation will reject particles of Tin, Niobium and Tantalum along with alot of other unwanted minerals due to their density being too high... into the a waste stream which will then be processed further by additional gravity separation process (along with other processes) on a separate circuit from the Spod Concentrate.
