Oh! and I should have added that KEY are drilling a deviated well or,drilling at an angle to vertical, so depths my be referred to as MD or TVD; both of which are different measurements.
The article referred to by a previous poster on HC relating to the Songo Songo drilling by Orca Exploration Group states:
"The well was drilled to a total measured depth of 2,426 meters within the main Neocomian reservoir. The top reservoir was encountered on prognosis at a measured depth of 1,909 meters (-1,700m TVDSS)".
TVDSS is True Vertical Depth Sub-Sea ( I don't know why the SS is used in the case of drilling from land...let me know if you can explain the use of the terminology in the article.
