FORMER CFMEU boss and Labor powerbroker Dave Hanna has been committed to stand trial over heinous rape allegations.
The Courier-Mail can reveal for the first time that Hanna, who is also a former vice-president of the Labor Party in Queensland, faces two charges of raping a woman he met in a Brisbane nightclub and making an “adult” recording of her.
In the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday, Magistrate Michael Quinn committed Hanna’s charges to the District Court in Brisbane on a date to be set.
Strict Queensland laws protecting the identities of alleged rapists until they are committed to stand trial had previously prevented Hanna from being named.
Prosecutors allege Hanna raped the drunk, confused woman after she was ejected from a Fortitude Valley nightclub on the night of March 3 last year and he shared a cab to her home.
Hanna is alleged to have made himself a drink and followed the woman into her bedroom before lying on top of her with his trousers and underwear removed.
It is alleged she told him numerous times “I don’t want to” before he raped her.
Hanna is also alleged to have filmed the woman while she was intoxicated or unconscious using his phone.
Prosecutors allege the phone footage shows the alleged victim was incapable of giving consent.
Police charged Hanna two days after the alleged incident after the woman complained to police the day after the alleged rape.
Officers allegedly found his fingerprints on an orange juice bottle, and saw closed-circuit TV footage from outside the nightclub of a man “strikingly similar” to Hanna boarding a taxi.
The court earlier heard that Hanna met the woman when she lost her handbag and was asked to leave the Eleven Rooftop Bar on Ann St due to her drunken state. The court previously heard that the woman told police that on arrival at her house Hanna kicked open her front door because she had lost her keys at the nightclub.
Hanna was national president of the construction division of the CFMEU until his sudden resignation in 2015 following the royal commission into trade unions.
