Niche markets are the key. Ours are the country and Indigenous culture - just to name two unique things to sell. Another is quality education, which is doing well, but Australia is usually third choice after the US and England. We are close to Asia, so it makes sense to import the cheap stuff.
Without looking it up, I would presume Sweden’s vehicle industry is highly subsidised, but I bet most of the components are made elsewhere.
