Of note re port, is an announcement by the S.A. Chamber of Mines and Energy, as reported by ABC News Online 2/6/08 - "...plans are being fast-tracked for a new port, most likely Port Bonython near Whyalla... " to service SA's expanding mining industry.
Obviously this will still take a few years to be up and running, but meanwhile Darwin could be used.
I understand that Goldstream ( now IXR ?? ) 100 k's to the north is planning to rail their haematite north to Darwin.
WPG budgeted $25 / tonne to transport product to Whyalla. Wonder what it will cost to rail to Darwin ??
