I read an article many years ago and have no way of confirming its claims. They were that Christianity entered the psyche of the Roman and Roman occupied peoples via the interactions and daily exchanges of women as they preformed all their various common chores and duties together. The Christian women demonstrated a better cooperative lifestyle and were willing to help anybody in need regardless of social class and religion. This over time wore down any antipathy towards them and of course these Roman women then influenced their Roman households.

The daily grind of being female and the sisterhood established therefrom overcame much of the prejudice and enable an exchange of ideas.
