When you say "2nd electric vehicle" and live in Australia (rather than France or Norway) you mean 2nd 95% coal and gas powered vehicle. The carbon emissions in your electricity generation and distribution supply chain are far bigger than petrol and diesel in vehicles due to the lower overall efficiency of EV (EROEI basis) due to the mining energy invested -transport energy invested -combustion thermal losses -steam generation efficiency -turbine efficiency-alternator conversion losses-transformer voltage step up conversion losses - power grid distribution losses - local transformer step down conversion losses- battery charger losses - battery to motor efficiency - motor to wheels efficiency.
Even the manufacture of a typical lithium battery for EV emits at least 8.4 tons of CO2 per battery.
Making coal and gas powered vehicles (EV electricity source matters) is a bigger problem than an efficient fuel vehicle - but in the future EV will be necessary when oil is too expensive and we have made a fortune.
