Our mole on Main Street, Osborne Park, tells us it was panic stations at Golden West Headquarters last night. We hear the Takeovers Panel has refused to reverse the accidental acceptance last month of Fairstar's bid by Golden West's second-biggest shareholder Falak Holdings. Falak and Golden West wanted the panel to give the Dubai-based shareholder it's 8 percent stake back. Falak had been a keen supporter of the target's chairman, Geoff Wedlock and his allies. Wedlock's short Golden West reign is in serious danger of coming to an end at a shareholder's meeting next tuesday.
