Adam,
dividends are announced and paid fully franked, with 30% tax off.
so to work out the gross yield, before tax, you divide the dividend by 7 and multiply by 10 to remove the franking or 30% company tax...
you want to know what your yield is gross rather than net or fully franked...so you can compare the yield to other investments such as term deposits, which are before tax...
