I agree with all the points raised in your post.
However, even after those elements are factored in, the large gold deposits must add to the attractiveness of this company as a potential for takeover.
I think that it may come down to what price per share a suitor would be willing to pay. Sometimes, this type of company is the perfect candidate to add to an acquisitive company's bottom line, through a rationalisation of expenses. The contribution to overhead, albeit above industry average, may make a takeover of Lihir a very sensible proposition.
