"who would be so meanly disposed to detect a hidden motive,.."
Well I suspect the author of that article for one, me for another, other commentators, some members of the opposition and eventually, hopefully, a lot more people.
One of the opposition members who was not in the house when the apology was given spoke about his reasoning in the house the next day. Dennis Jensen - it's a very good speech. He began by examining Rudd's previous parliamentary comments about aboriginal affairs.
"So, I searched Parlinfo, for Rudd’s speeches in Hansard.
For the search term “aboriginal” I got 2 hits - one about a local primary school and the other his speech in response to Howard’s aboriginal initiative last year, in which he supports Howard.
For “aboriginals” - 0 hits. For “ATSIC” - 0 hits. For “native welfare” - 0 hits.
