I and my family are from Turkey.
I'm a cosmetic surgeon and it took some time for my qualifications to be recognised here. During the time I sat the local medical exams and worked as a nurse without pay. I received welfare in the form of subsidised housing and fortnightly payments to cover food and clothing for my family, this allowed me not to dig into my savings I had from working in Europe.
I don't consider myself an Aussie and probably never will until I am accepted here.
Once I have gained citizenship I would like to move into politics so I can play a part in shaping the future of Australia, providing greater awareness for new arrivals.
