No one should underestimate FAR’s achievements in the face of the worst oil market in 40 years. That has not happened by accident - it is the product of vision, skill, tenacity ... and a little bit of luck. Gary Player famously said, ‘The harder I practice, the luckier I get’, and Cath is a shining example of this principle. The Chairman told the AGM his MD paid a personal price (family time) for her Company’s success and those (thankfully few) who criticise her remuneration should give pause for thought about that.

Before investing (heavily by my standards) in FAR, I attended an AGM and another presentation with the express purpose of meeting the people who would be managing my money. I found leaders who were competent, confident - not cocky - and personable and staff who were obviously springing out of bed to get to work. Having worked for 20 years in a top 100 ASX firm that shared that excitement, I duly stuck my hand in my pocket and invested an amount six times larger than I had in any previous stock.

At this year’s AGM, I talked to Cath about the underestimated importance of Government relations and observed how doors seemed to open for good people. FAR has plenty of open doors to walk through.
