Yes, it certainly tickles the imagination. The 45 C might be the free desert air temperature on a hot day. Trapped under the glass canopy it might be 60 -70 C (my est). The secondary air coolers add temperature above that. With a higher temp flow at the turbine the air density gradient is increased so that the whole tower structure may then possibly be reduced in size. Present designs indicate tower heights of ~1000m which is very offputting.
I can't help pondering the question, if the small scale 50 kW prototype power tower was built and operated in Spain 1982-89 successfully, why was a full scale version never built? Perhaps no suitable deserts in Spain? It rains in Spain only ..... The website raises some good questions but then doesn't answer them!
