additional ounces along strike should be cheaper than deeper ones within the existing pit for the following reasons; lower strip ratio, oxide ore so may be higher grade, oxide so easier to crush and extract the gold. Shallow holes are also quicker to drill and so faster turn around from drilling to mining.
