housing affordability the solution, page-8

The Labour party tried this in the early 1990's, the result? Fewer houses were built, rental accommodation dropped off, housing prices went up.

The government then had projections that public housing would need to go up - I think it was $70B and of course that broke the camels back. Negative ghearing was re-introduced, after a couple of years.

Other negative effects occured - which I won't go into, however in a time with no resource boom, unemployment increased too - which was contrary to Labour policy.

So much for killing -ve gearing.
