No, I don't suspect that you were joking although, I confess, on occasions, I can't really tell.

I think that some bible stories are fairy tales if taken literally.
Some things that some believers think are literally true:

    • Adam and Eve were first humans about 6000 years ago.
    • Just about all life was wiped out in a global flood about 3000 years ago and then recovered very quickly
    • Creation was perfect until a naive couple made a simple mistake by allowing them to be deceived by the pinnacle of God's creation - then creation turned to crud with all its problems.
    • We are still waiting for the problems with creation to be sorted - it will happen soon, but soon never comes.
    • Each generation is living in the time in which things will be sorted, and each generation has it's identity of the Bogeyman, from the Roman Empire, to the Roman Catholic Church (which ironically constituted the first Christians and decided what to include in the bible and what to exclude from it), the British Empire.... etc
    • Adam and Eve only realized that they were naked when ate some forbidden fruit - at lease there is an amusing side to the fairy tales.

That's just a few. I hope that you can get some sense of the reasons that it's hard to tell when you are serious and when you are joking.
