When you cut a position, you don't just go down the the bank and cash in the full value of their salary. 8,000 job losses involves huge restructuring costs, retraining, recruitment, etc. It's safe to assume those 8,000 people were actually performing some function that will now fall to someone else.
So there will be savings, but not close to the equivalent of 8,000 salaries.
Sometimes I wonder if people on HC have ever actually worked in an organisation...
