Here is a list of countries/states without standing armed forces:
https://www.storypick.com/country-no-army/
Our armed forces cost us about $30 billion a year and its "pension fund",
the DVA, cost about $13 billion a year. Total $43 billion a year.
Suppose we use these funds to buy back the farm (80% of our mines are foreign owned)
not to mention the growing foreign ownership of actual farms.
Once we buy back the farm and we have sovereign wealth to protect, then we could phase the armed forces back
in and limit it to protecting Australia within our borders or serving as peacekeepers under the UN banner overseas.
Just a thought in this neo-liberal era of cost cutting and self interest.
