Its necessary to distinguish jockeying at the open which leads to a single share parcel in the course of sales (a practice which some see as manipulation, but I regard as just an unpalatable aspect of normal market trading taking advantage of the nature of the opening and closing auction to attempt to get a pip of price improvement - jumping the queue if you like) from simply placing a sale for a single share in the market - the latter is clear and blatant market manipulation as it can have no plausible deniability.
