What's interesting about the decision to use trophon for ultrasound probe decontamination is the apparent reason which might reasonably be surmised from the linked update of the relevant Standard Operational Procedure (SOP).
On page 1 of the document, it is noted that a temporary update/amendment of the existing SOP for hand hygiene and ultrasound probe decontamination had to be issued on 1 December 2017 due to "adverse reaction to Tristel use".
This was followed in March 2018 with a full update of the relevant SOP, due to the "introduction of Trophon High Level Disinfection system" (see page 2).
Now, Tristel manufactures a manual wipe system for high level ultrasound probe disinfection, and England is its home base and biggest market. Tristel is the principal competitor to trophon in the ultrasound probe disinfection market throughout the UK. So, it seems noteworthy that RB NHS Foundation Trust had temporarily updated its SOP for ultrasound probe decontamination due to adverse reaction to Tristel use and very quickly developed a new SOP due to the introduction of the trophon system.
It's reasonable to speculate just how serious the adverse reaction to Tristel use at RB NHS Foundation Trust may have been and to further speculate what the implications may now be for other NHS Trusts throughout England who might be mulling over continued use of Tristel wipes for ultrasound probe decontamination, versus adoption of the trophon system.
