Good post Michael
I dont have any interest in ABS either, but agree with eveything you have said.
Something needs to be done in the near future about the practice of the hedge funds borrowing shares and shorting them, thereby avoiding the disclosure rules.
Apparently the big 4 banks, among others are not happy with what is happening on this front, and there would no doubt be other influential organisations putting pressure on the ASX to change the rules to prevent undisclosed shorting.
Regaring the overseas funds, our market is a small one and their abilty to manipulate it is always a potential problem.
In all fairness to the ASX, this practise of stepping around the existing shorting regs is fairly new and I imagine they are not happy about it either.
But the ASX needs to get its act together very quickly on this one.
Cheers,
Bendigo
