I reckon if they can get a reasonable price for the US centres the sp should rally. ABC's business here will benefit greatly from the increased childcare benefits and tax rebates.
The childcare industry was barely profitable until the federal government introduced the childcare benefit (CCB) in July 2000. It provides a means-tested subsidy to parents, which is paid directly to the centre in advance. The subsidy means that a centre in a low-to-average socio-economic area – where most ABC centres are located – might get 60–80% of their income from the CCB.
In July 2004, the government added another layer of support – a 30% childcare tax rebate. In addition to the CCB, parents get a rebate for out-of-pocket expenses up to $4,000 per child.
As of July this year, the rebate will increase to 50%, with a maximum of $7,500 per child. The rebate is not means tested.
